Activities In and On the Water

As well as Aberporth there is also a huge selection of beaches in West Wales which can be used for Boat Trips, Canoeing, Sailing, Wind Surfing, Kite Surfing, Power Kiting, Swimming and Fishing. 

Such beaches include Cwmtydu, Llangrannog, Penbryn, Tresaith, Mwnt, Poppit, Ceibwr Bay and Newport Sands.

Walking in West Wales

Since the completion some five years ago of the Wales Coastal Path, walking in West Wales has become an extremely popular activity. The Ceredigion coastal path which, stretches from Borth in the north to Cardigan in the south, passes through Aberporth and is well used. The opportunity to explore the coast – with care – increases the chances of watching dolphins, seals and sea birds undisturbed.

There are also dozens of inland walks around Aberporth and Cardigan Bay that are well worth a look. (Without being ageist it is worth mentioning that walking is an excellent alternative exercise for those who longer wish to chase a ball!)

‘Culture’ and History and the River Teifi

The newly restored and opened Cardigan Castlewith its Georgian mansion, where you can unlock the story of the Castle, the people who lived here, and find out how it became the birthplace of Wales’ biggest cultural festival, the Eisteddfod.

As well as the history, the grounds of the Castle are an excellent venue for outdoor cultural events, theatre and music.

For something a bit less active why not see how our predecessors used to travel down the river at The National Coracle Centre near Cilgerran.

The Teifi River is another great place for Water Sport activities. Competitions are held at Cenarth Falls and it’s possible to Canoe from Llechryd through Cardigan to Poppit Beach.The popular and well attended Theatr Mwldan in Cardigan stages live theatre and film as well as other artistic events, and next door the performances at the Small World Theatre have a more alternative feel.

Over the river in St Dogmaels summer outdoor performances are also held in the ruins of St Dogmaels Abbey.
